Note: Visiting hours may change due to COVID restrictions.
ICU: 24 hour visitation. Limit 2 visitors at a time in the patient room.
Visitors must obtain a pass at the main information desk (entrance 2) prior to visiting a patient. You need an ID to get a visitors pass
Visitors may be asked to step out of the patient’s room for procedures. Family members are asked not to spend the night to allow for patients to rest and also to encourage self-care of family members.
Visitor Restrictions: If you would like to place a restriction on visitation, you can:
Visit the On Duty Administrator’s office in room 1280, or
Ask a nurse to call the Administrator on your behalf.
We know that your main concern is the well being of your loved one while in the hospital. For patients in the Trauma ICU, the best time to get a medical update is after the medical team completes their morning rounds (“rounds” means formulating a plan for the day for each patient). Typically it is best to ask for an update after 11am.
We encourage each family to designate a single person with whom the medical team communicates information. To protect patient privacy, updates are given in person, unless the medical team calls a family member.
Recovery from a traumatic injury can involve many medical disciplines. Although the Trauma surgeons remain the primary caregivers while a patient is on the Trauma service, multiple other teams may be caring for the patient. This care is coordinated throughout the day; you can think of the Trauma doctors as being the “quarterbacks” leading the team caring for the patient. Some of the most common consulting services and the role they play are:
Orthopedics: Bone injuries
Vascular Surgery: Vein/arterial injuries
Neurosurgery: Surgeons addressing injuries to the brain and spinal cord
Physical Therapy: An exercise treatment for patients who have been immobilized or impaired in their movement and flexibility
Occupational Therapy: A form of therapy for those recuperating from physical or mental illness that encourages rehabilitation through the performance of activities required in daily life.
Cafeteria: located in basement level of the hospital.
Hot and cold food, snacks & coffee/tea
Awake Cafe Coffee Shop: located in the main lobby of the hospital.
Serves a variety of drinks including coffee, espresso, smoothies.
Also pre-made sandwiches and pastries
Food Court: across the street on Damen & Ogden are restaurants such as Chipotle, Panda Express, Jimmy Johns, and Five Guys.
