Cook County Operational Medicine is a regional leader in training tactical medical providers to operate effectively in austere and high-risk environments. We partner with multiple public safety and healthcare agencies—including NIPAS, CCSO, ISP, CFD, and ILEAS—to equip law enforcement medics and EMS personnel with the skills needed for tactical response and field operations. Through a strategic collaboration with the University of Chicago’s EMS Fellowship, we train physicians in operational medicine and embed them directly into law enforcement missions, including SWAT deployments. Our program also prepares emergency medicine residents and trauma fellows to coordinate seamlessly with prehospital teams, honing their capabilities in field triage, tactical support, and mass casualty incident (MCI) response. Rooted in trauma care and forged through real-time operational experience, Cook County Trauma provides mission-critical medical expertise that enhances officer safety, improves casualty outcomes, and fortifies overall operational readiness.
