The Research fellowship at the Department of Trauma and Burn Surgery at the Stroger Cook County Hospital is a one or two year clinical research immersion aimed at creating highly accomplished clinical researchers. While aimed primarily at overseas graduates, USA clinicians and medical scientists are welcome to apply. During the research fellowship, the researchers are expected to attend Departmental clinical and educational conferences and interact with the surgical and emergency medical trainees as well as attending and nursing staff. They are also expected to learn at a rapid pace from in-house data base managers. The researchers are integrated into several projects that are ongoing within the department. They are also expected to come up with unique individual projects, learn to whet the viability of the projects and complete and submit the projects to national and international meetings. Several publications and presentations are expected from the researchers during their research fellowship. The research fellowship must be funded by the sponsoring hospital or university of the student or must be self-funded by the student. USA visa requirements dictate the funds necessary to gain entrance into the research fellowship.
